Attention shoppers: Congressman in aisle ten

Colorado Congressman Ed Perlmutter will hold a Government in the Grocery constituent meet-up this evening from 5-7 at the Safeway at 38th and Wadsworth in Wheat Ridge. The address is 3900 Wadsworth.

The meeting, where Perlmutter typically sits at a folding table and talks to whomever shows up, is free and open to the public.

This will be about the 80th such meeting Perlmutter has held since being elected to Congress. He briefly suspended the meetings after Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot at a similar event this past February. After discussing security with grocery store officials and police, Perlmutter began the meetings soon thereafter.

At that time, Perlmutter stated, “Over the past few weeks, my staff and I have met with Safeway, other grocery stores and law enforcement in our district, and we are taking the appropriate and responsible precautions to move forward with our Government in the Grocery program and consider the safety of everyone involved. Government in the Grocery is about being available to listen to the hardworking people in the 7th CD in a less formal setting to talk about the issues on their mind. This kind of access is essential to the fabric of our democracy. Safeway has been an outstanding partner in this program since day one, and they are providing a valuable service to our communities by allowing us to hold these office hours in their stores.”
