Tupa to Sponsor Anti-Surge Resolution

Sen. Ron Tupa (D-Boulder) confirmed today that he is planning to introduce a state resolution to oppose President Bush’s plan to send an additional 21,000 troops to Iraq. Public opinion is definitely on Tupa’s side – a recent USA Today/Gallop Poll found that 70 percent of Americans oppose escalation of the war.

The Progressive States Network launched an initiative this week to encourage state legislatures to support anti-escalation resolutions in tandem with a U.S. Senate resolution requiring the president to seek Congressional authority before sending additional troops to Iraq. “Since we have announced this campaign, the level of interest from legislators, from the grassroots, and from Congress has just been overwhelming. The resolutions are sprouting up all over the country. It’s a sign of just how deeply flawed this escalation policy really is
