More better journalism: Colorado Independent relaunch!
The Colorado Independent has relaunched. It’s a new and improved product, brimming with talent and ambition.
The new team includes Editor Susan Greene, former Denver Post columnist and reporter; Managing Editor John Tomasic, a veteran of the Independent and longtime new-media news pioneer is managing editor; Columnist Mike Littwin, a Colorado institution; superstar young reporters Tessa Cheek and Shelby Kinney-Lang.
The new Independent will also host work by more than two dozen topic-experts who will write on the environment, economics, immigration, criminal justice, civil rights, LBGT issues, health care, family matters, arts culture and entertainment. You may already know some of them, such as longtime Colorado sports columnist Dave Krieger, theater critic John Moore, film critic Bob Denerstein and Pulitzer-winning political cartoonist Mike Keefe. Others, such as immigration organizer Julie Gonzales, fiscal policy guru Carol Hedges and environmental watchdog Becky Long, you will come to know.
The goal for the new site is modest. We merely want to produce the most important, intelligent, provocative, entertaining, fairest journalism in the state — work shaped by a drive to serve Colorado communities. The only bias we have is for good journalism.
As reporter-editor-blogger Andrew Sullivan once said, “The dirty little secret of journalism is that it really isn’t a profession, it’s a craft. All you need is a telephone and a conscience and you’re all set.”
The Independent was founded in 2006, part of the Washington, DC-based American Independent News Network. The site was re-established as a Colorado nonprofit this year, funded solely by grants and donations.
