White River Nat’l Forest to Release Draft Plan

The White River National Forest (WRNF) went through a re-evaluation of its Travel Management Plan several years ago. It was announced on Thursday that it will release a draft copy of the new version of the travel plan for public view next week. There will be a 90-day comment period. MoreThe final Travel Management Plan will tentatively be released next summer. The final will incorporate public comment and direction and will ultimately set the baseline for use of roads, trails and special recreation, or play areas on the forest, according to the WRNF announcement.

The White River National Forest is the “top recreational Forest in the nation.” It boasts premier skiing-in the likes of Aspen, Vail, Snowmass, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek among many others. There is also drilling, mining, grazing, and lumbering mixed in with hunting, ATVs, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and hiking. The 2.3 million acre national forest is also the birthplace of The Wilderness.
