As Democrats and Republicans hold county assemblies this month, statewide candidates are making the rounds in an effort to garner votes at state assemblies on April 12 to make the primary ballot. Colorado Independent recorded several recent speeches and will feature them in coming days.

Candidate: State Sen. Randy Baumgardner, running for the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall.

Locale: Jefferson County Republican Assembly, March 24, 2014.

Issues: Opposing Obamacare, supporting gun rights, reducing the national debt, limited government.

Quote: “I believe that government should not be involved in our health care system. Let health care professionals take care of health care, not politicians.”
