Wiretap: The Keystone pipeline fails the ‘Keystone Principle’, of course
The New Yorker‘s Elizabeth Kolbert explains why delaying the Keystone XL pipeline is a cause for at least some celebration. She cites what K. C. Golden, policy director for the group Climate Solutions, calls “the Keystone Principle.” In which: “To avoid truly catastrophic climate change, the world needs to avoid new, long-term capital investments that are going to ‘lock in’ dangerous levels of carbon emissions. A project that clearly fails the Keystone Principle test is Keystone itself.” Which, she says, is why delaying Keystone is better than at least one of the obvious alternatives.
