Wiretap: ‘I have your girls. By Allah, I will sell them in the market’

The search for the Nigerian lost girls continues with little help from Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan or First Lady Patience Jonathan. It took weeks for the president to speak at length about the mass kidnapping of schoolgirls by the insurgent group Boko Haram. When he finally did, Jonathan placed some of the blame on parents for not providing a “clear identity” of their children. The First Lady, meanwhile, accused protesters asking for more government action of fabricating stories to embarrass her husband. The New Yorker talked to some of the parents of the missing girls about the government’s ineffectual efforts to find them, even as the leader of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, released a video, saying “I have your girls. By Allah, I will sell them in the market.”
