Coffman jokes, Dems pounce

The Colorado Democrats are hawking another instance of Rep. Mike Coffman’s unfamiliarity with the vernacular – this time the language of politics and humor. A blurry YouTube video shows Coffman at an Aurora Sister Cities International event. He stumbles twice on the name of Jim McGibney, honorary consul for the Republic of Korea, then cracks a joke about it. “I thought you were going to be deported, ” he seems to be saying in the fuzzy audio.

The Democrats’ press release notes that Coffman voted against the DREAM Act, which would have provided a way to citizenship for young people brought to this country, and to weaken or end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.

We strive to report the news with context, social conscience, and soul, and to give Coloradans the insight they need to promote conversation, understanding and progress in this square, swing state we call home.
