Another lesson learned: Gardner’s money plea to Koch brothers caught on tape

Chris Cillizza – Washington Post’s The Fix — says the biggest story in politics today is the audio recording, obtained by the Huffington Post, of Cory Gardner and two other Senate Republican hopefuls hanging out at a summer retreat with the Koch brothers.

Gardner was there on a panel with Iowa’s Jon Ernst and Arkansas’s Tom Cotton. And they all learned the lesson that John Hickenlooper learned in Aspen – that wherever you go, you can be sure that someone is recording it.

Cillizza makes the case that this is hardly a game-breaker, noting that those most likely to be offended are already voting for Mark Udall, but that “Gardner’s comments are the most politically problematic — he’s clearly casting for outside spenders to dump money into his race.” You can hear the audio now, or you can wait for the inevitable TV ads. If nothing else, it takes the pressure off Udall’s relationship with billionaire Tom Steyer.
