Now, GOP Rep. Mark Waller rips would-be House Krazy Klingenschmitt. Who’s next?
Former House Minority Leader Mark Waller called Gordon Klingenschmitt’s anti-gay tirade against Jared Polis “hateful speech.” In fact, he told Colorado Community Media that his “11-year-old son can identify that as hateful speech.”
Pretty much everyone agrees on the hate-speech front, even Klingenschmitt, sort of. What makes Waller’s statement so powerful is that he actually holds the seat for which Klingenschmitt is running. And Waller, who isn’t running for re-election, says it won’t be easy even for Republican voters to decide between Republican Klingenschmitt and Democrat Lois Fornander.
“If you’re not voting for him, you’re voting for the Democrat and quite honestly legislative majorities matter,” Waller said. “But that puts (House District 15 voters) in a rock and a hard place in terms of who to vote for.”
If you missed Klingenschmitt’s e-mail blast on Polis, here’s the key quote: “Democrats like Polis want to bankrupt Christians who refuse to worship and endorse his sodomy. Next he’ll join ISIS in beheading Christians, but not just in Syria, right here in America.”
It’s not an easy quote to walk back. Klingenschmitt has apologized for his comments, but first saying he was using “hyperbole” and that Democrats didn’t have a sense of humor. It looks some Republicans don’t either. The state party has already slammed him. Now, from Waller: “Obviously he doesn’t speak for me or the Republican Party.”
