Bennet left to survey sweeping Republican Senate gains

Democrat Michael Bennet, Colorado’s junior U.S. senator, consoles a supporter Tuesday night after learning that his colleague, Sen. Mark Udall, had been defeated and Republicans will gain control of the Senate. Bennet — chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee — had led the national fight to keep control of the Senate this mid-term election in the face of widespread discontent with second-term President Barack Obama.
