Democratic Party email writers have chosen Colorado’s new Fourth District Congressman, Ken Buck, as their 2015 lead-off man. They put him at the top spot in a sarcastic fundraising list sent out yesterday of “the brightest stars of the GOP freshman class.”

The email (subject line: “This is embarrassing”) comes from Democratic National Committee “HQ.” It names Buck “Freshman Class President” and includes this block of text by his name:

“Said of alleged rape victim: ‘A jury could very well conclude that this is a case of buyer’s remorse.'”

The quote comes from Buck’s time as Weld County District Attorney, when in 2005, he declined to file criminal charges in a rape case, telling the alleged victim that there wasn’t enough evidence to take her case to trial. In 2010, reports of the case that included quotes like the one included in the DNC email, fueled accusations that Buck was dismissive toward women and helped tank his bid for the U.S. Senate.

This year, Buck waltzed into the U.S. House after making a deal with former Fourth District Representative Cory Gardner. Buck stepped out of the race for U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Mark Udall to help make a clear patch for Gardner to run against Udall. Gardner then endorsed Buck for the Fourth District seat.

In addition to Buck, the “brightest stars” line up assembled by the DNC writers includes Iowa’s Joni Ernst, Georgia’s Jody Hice, Wisconsin’s Glenn Grothman and North Carolina’s Thom Tillis.

“These guys are the majority now. Stand against them,” it says.
