Democratic presidential candidates are lagging in Colorado
Back in April, Hillary Clinton’s numbers were looking in good in Colorado, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. But her support has plummeted here and other in several key swing states. A new early poll released today shows Clinton and other Democrats candidates are losing in Colorado.
Republican contenders Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker are beating Clinton and Bernie Sanders at the numbers game. They’re also beating Vice President Joe Biden, who hasn’t said he’ll be running. In the meantime, the poll shows Donald Trump is bottoming out with negative public trust.
Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a release that Clinton’s numbers also are dropping in other swing states such as Iowa and Virginia.
“She has lost ground in the horserace and on key questions about her honesty and leadership,” he said. “One other key takeaway is that Vice President Joseph Biden, who is considering a 2016 run, does better than Clinton on honesty and on caring about voter needs — always a key Democratic strong point.”
Today’s poll shows that most Colorado voters view Clinton as dishonest and untrustworthy. A majority of Coloradans think she has strong leadership qualities, but a stronger majority thinks she fails to care about their needs and problems, it finds.
On the other hand, Clinton’s Democratic competitor Bernie Sanders ranks high on leadership and trustworthiness. But, according to the poll, he’d still lose the general election.
A majority of the state’s voters see Rubio, Walker and Bush as honest and trustworthy. Both Walker and Rubio have positive favorability ratings.
It’s far too early to predict how this square swing state will vote in the presidential elections. But, if the early Quinnipiac results are any indication, the numbers are stacking in favor of the GOP.
