WATCH: Colorado’s third party US Senate candidates debate guns, healthcare and more
On the CU Boulder campus Thursday, Colorado’s Libertarian and Green Party candidates for U.S. Senate talked about guns, healthcare, the importance of third party candidacies in our state and more during a forum moderated by Colorado Independent journalist Corey Hutchins.
Libertarian Lily Tang Williams described the “woman-sized” AR-15 she owns, and Green Party nominee Arn Menconi said he would try to ban semi-automatic weapons like hers as a U.S. Senator. Williams explained what free-market healthcare would look like while Menconi championed the ColoradoCare universal healthcare ballot measure.
Williams said she isn’t joking about requiring politicians to wear body cameras. Menconi said he was joking when he said he would ban Ayn Rand books from public libraries.
Oh yeah, and who would pay for those body cameras? “If we’re going to watch them when they’re working in Washington, D.C. for us, I’m sure we would be glad to pay for body cameras,” Williams said.
Watch the two-hour debate below. The sound doesn’t kick in for a few seconds, but hang in there — that’s just Hutchins introducing himself and listing the other six candidates on the U.S. Senate ballot for Colorado voters on Nov. 8.
The forum-debate was live-streamed by the Free and Equal Elections Foundation.
