Alan Salazar to join Hancock administration after election

Alan Salazar, Gov. John Hickenlooper’s former chief policy strategist, will join the administration of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock after the November election.

Salazar is currently a senior advisor to the Hillary Clinton campaign. He will become chief of staff to Hancock on November 21, succeeding Janice Sinden, who was named president and CEO of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in August.

In addition to his work for Hickenlooper, Salazar also served as chief of staff to then-U.S. Rep. Mark Udall and as deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Roy Romer. He was state director for both the 1992 and 1996 Colorado campaigns for President Bill Clinton.

Salazar was born in Leadville and grew up in the Denver metro area. He earned a bachelor’s degree and and a law degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
