Both Ways Bob Supports Mixed Up Mitt

Wondering what Bob Beauprez is doing almost five months after getting trounced by Bill Ritter in the race for Colorado Governor?

For one, he is shilling for GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney.  In an email fundraising solicitation sent out by the Romney Campaign, Beauprez and his wife, Claudia, pitch Romney’s credentials and repeatedly ask for donations (for $2300 per person if you can afford it).

More after the jump…In case you were wondering how Romney would approach being President, the Beauprezes suggest you consider his experience leading the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City: “The result was the most successful and profitable Olympics in history.”  I guess he would give us the most profitable America, too?  Come to think of it, though, American corporations are already seeing record profits, especially the one that recently packed up and moved to Dubai.

One of my favorite snippets from the solicitation is the focus on Romney’s family:

He and his wife Ann have raised five wonderful boys, always putting family first. All five sons are married and have given the Romneys ten grandchildren – so far. Theirs is a family that embodies the values that we, as Americans, treasure.

By values, I assume they mean “live long and prosper”?  What better reason to support a candidate – lots of offspring.

Among Romney’s leading GOP opponents, Sen. John McCain has seven children, but only four grandchildren.  Rudy Giuliani falls far short on this measure, with only two children (whom he does NOT mention on his campaign website).  Of course, he is on his third marriage, so maybe he gets extra points for taking marriage vows more often?

Noticeably absent from the pitch, despite the mention of family values, is the topic of abortion. What must have really convinced Both Ways Bob to go with Mitt is this National Review article, where Romney is quoted as having said during his campaign for governor of Massachusetts “I believe abortion should be safe and legal in this country.” but now Romney says he is pro-life.

His campaign advisor, Michael Murphy, described his flip-flop even better: “He’s been a pro-life Mormon faking it as a pro-choice friendly.”  Romney responds that he was not faking it, he just “had this issue wrong in the past.”

In the same National Journal interview, Romney also defended his apparent flip on gay marriage from his 1994 campaign to now.  In a 1994 interview, he stated about gay marriage, “it’s a state issue”.  Now he says, ” I believe marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman and I have been rock solid in my support of traditional marriage.”

However Romney explains his flips and flops, his support from Both Ways Bob definitely makes sense.
