Older Coloradans Score Well on Health Report

Aging Coloradans are in fairly good health compared to the of the nation, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study looks at 15 factors relating to health status, health behaviors and preventive care for people 65 and older. Colorado ranked in the upper third for eight of the factors and in the  middle third for the rest. The state tops the list for the percentage of older residents who’ve had a flu shot within the last year (2004) and ranks second for a low rate of obesity. Residents also scored well on preventive care for women, pneumonia vaccinations and low rates of mental distress. Colorado’s lowest ranking (31st) was in the category for current smoking.

West Virginia and Mississippi were the lowest ranking states overall.
