Move Over, Rupert Murdoch

There’s a new publisher in town. The name of Senate Minority Leader Andy McElhany’s online ColoradoSenateNews.com suggests a balanced daily dose of online news coming out of the state capitol. Even the Colorado Springs Republican proclaims – with a broad smile – that his Website contains “the objective truth.”

But make no mistake. The site may be a cutting edge approach to partisan PR – an all-the-time Republican lovefest in which all Democrats are wicked, vice-filled antagonists – but objective?

McElhany became “publisher” after Colorado Confidential and the Rocky Mountain News published stories detailing how GOP political operative Brad Jones was paid party money to develop the Website. Jones was subsequently removed as the site “administrator” and Minority Legislative Initiatives Director Dan Njegomir, who maintains the site, suggested McElhany be the publisher, the senate leader says.

Now if staff could just work on getting the online media mogul a state e-mail address…
