The Obama inauguration by the numbers

Mashable.com counts up some record-shattering figures on the online activity generated by the Obama inauguration today.

CNN served 13.9 million live video streams globally between 6-11:45 a.m. EST. The cable news giant broke its all time total daily streaming record of 5.3 million live streams on Election Day 2008.

Facebook also reported an undisclosed millions of people logged into its social media site:

• 600,000 status updates posted through the CNN.com Live Facebook feed
• an average of 4,000 status updates per minute during the pre-inaugural and swearing-in broadcasts
• 8,500 status updates were posted during the first minute of Obama’s speech

And that’s just two sites among the estimated tens of millions of blogs, news networks and social media sites worldwide.
