The Handcuffing Begins At 3:30

The people of Colorado Springs often wonder why the rest of the world seems to think they are so, well, peculiar.

Here’s one sample, from a press release sent out by the Colorado Springs Police Department, representing the second-largest city (and as of last year, largest county) in Colorado.

The Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers’ Memorial Special Events Committee will be holding a fund raising event at Springs Spree in Colorado Springs on Saturday, June 16th to raise money for the Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers’ Memorial which will be built in America the Beautiful Park.

This event will attempt to break the current record held in the Alternative Book of World Records of the most number of people to be handcuffed together.  The current record is held in England with 305 people.  We have secured approximately 800 sets of handcuffs and will attempt to surround two city blocks with a line of people handcuffed together.

The handcuffing line will begin to form at the intersection of Platte Ave. and Tejon St. in Colorado Springs at approximately 3:30 pm.  Handcuffs are being provided by four surrounding Sheriff’s Department’s Court Transport Units, as well as one manufacturer and the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Training Academy.

Participants will pay a registration fee to be cuffed with all proceeds going to the Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers’ Memorial Fund.

Will they break the record? We’ll keep you posted.
