Crime is down in Denver 11.4% for the year to date compared to the same period last year, on top of a 10% decline in crime from 2005 to 2006.
The cause may have more to do with economics than policing, a tale told by building permits.According to the Denver Post, Denver’s residential building market is booming, while the suburbs slump.
Through April of this year, residential unit housing permits are up more than 20% in Denver.
Neighoring Jefferson County building permits are down 70% for the same time period, permits are down 60% in Adams County, permits are down almost 31% in Weld County, and permits are down 2.5% in Arapahoe County.
Foreclosures and the subprime market crash have killed the new housing market in new subdivision dominated suburban counties, while openness to infill has strengthened the more diversified Denver housing market. Higher gas prices and never ending traffic have also made central city living more attractive.
