Fox News ranter Glenn Beck to launch ‘Common Sense’ comic tour in Denver
Fox News star Glenn Beck will kick off a six-city comedy tour in Denver, The Associated Press reports. “[We] might as well laugh a little before Comrade Obama has us all wearing fur hats and waiting in line to buy toilet paper,” announces Beck’s Web site.
Beck says he’s decided to hit the road this summer because President Barack Obama has his “head feeling like it’s about ready to explode each and every day.”
The “Common Sense” comedy show, loosely built around a modern-day interpretation of Thomas Paine’s 1776 pamphlet “Common Sense,” arrives at Denver’s Elie Caulkins Opera House on June 1, and will be followed by appearances in Phoenix, San Diego, Kansas City, Houston, and Richmond, Va. Beck’s Kansas City show will be simulcast to “more than 450 movie theaters nationwide,” according to the commentator’s Web site.
Beck and his “9/12 Project” — “designed to bring us all back to the place we were on September 12, 2001” — has been a frequent subject of ridicule by Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert. A couple weeks ago on “The Colbert Report,” the comedian riffed on “the fantasy where a hysterical Glenn Beck tells his audience of desperate shut-ins through tears and spittle that vague unnamed enemies have failed them and that it’s time to take angry action.”
Colbert questions Beck’s commitment to 9/12 values, by pulling from the archives a quote by Beck:
“You know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims’ families. … When I see a 9/11 victim family on television or whatever, I’m just like, ‘Oh, shut up!’ I’m so sick of them because they’re always complaining.”

Tickets to Beck’s Denver appearance go on sale April 27, with something called an “insider pre-sale” available to Beck fans April 20.
