Yet another incumbent wins re-election in IREA board vote

Another day, another blow to conservation-minded energy consumers in the suburbs between Denver and Colorado Springs.

For the second straight day, a challenger for the Intermountain Rural Electric Association board who favored more investment in renewable energy, John Masson, was soundly defeated.

Masson tallied 2,178 votes to 3,838 for incumbent Bruff Shea in a controversial election that has pitted environmentalists against entrenched backers of the coal industry.

A total of 6,042 mail-in ballots were cast in the District 5 race, with 26 disqualifications. The final vote, District 7, which pitted challenger Mike Galvin against incumbent Gene Sperry, should will be tallied by this evening.
