Want to Help Select a President? Start Here

Today is the last day you can register to vote and declare a political party in order to participate in Colorado’s Feb. 5, 2008, presidential caucus. If you remain an unaffiliated voter, you won’t have a voice in local, state or national candidate selection until Election Day, Nov. 4. There are over 100,000 unaffiliated voters in Colorado, which is about one-third of the state’s registered voters. Both Democratic and Republican Party rules state that in order to participate in the presidential caucuses, a voter must be registered in that party for 60 days.

Colorado will be sharing its caucus date with more than a dozen other states for the Super Tuesday presidential primary/caucus: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Utah.

The Colorado caucuses will also be the first step for party members to participate in political activities leading up to the Democratic National Convention in Denver Aug. 25-28, 2008, or the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul Sept. 1-4.
