While Women Soar in Elections, Many are Locked Out of State Cabinets

Considered a “pipeline to elected office,” cabinet-level state appointments are mostly held by men. A new report aims to highlight the discrepancy and encourages governors to tap into the unique perspective and experience that women offer.This was a groundbreaking year for women in politics. Nancy Pelosi became the first female Speaker of the House, and Hillary Clinton is leading the race for the White House with a good chance to become the nation’s first female president.

But while women may be breaking down barriers to reach elected office, a recently-released report by the Women’s Campaign Forum (WCF) shows that women are still underrepresented when it comes to cabinet-level appointed positions in the 50 states.
