Things starting to pop around the Fourth

It’s not quite Independence Day, but fireworks are already taking their toll in the state.

The Denver Post reports that an 18-year-old Jefferson County man was injured Monday morning while trying to make a smoke device. Two other men were involved, one of whom was also injured.

Three grass fires were also started along Hampton Avenue in Denver by bottle rockets. No suspects have been tied to the fires.

According to the U.S. Product Safety Commission, during 2007 nearly 10,000 people were admitted to emergency rooms across the country due to fireworks related injuries.

Of those 10,000 injuries 64 percent occurred during a one-month period surrounding The Fourth of July.
