James Dobson to pummel Obama’s ‘fruitcake’ interpretations

It’s probably a safe bet to wager that Focus on the Family founder and CEO James “Anybody But McCain” Dobson will also not be voting for Barack Obama come November.

According to The Associated Press, in his radio program today, Dobson reportedly plans to verbally pummel the Democratic presidential candidate about the head and neck, accusing him of things like governing by the "lowest common denominator of morality," having "a fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution" and “dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."

The news comes after more than a year after Dobson, an influential evangelical whose Colorado Springs-based radio program reaches millions of listeners, began publicly denouncing just about every Republican candidate for president.

As The Colorado Independent reported back in January 2007, Dobson kicked things off by announcing that "I would not vote for Republican John McCain under any circumstances … he’s not in favor of traditional marriage and I pray that we don’t get stuck with him."

McCain has been on record as saying, "I think, uh … I think that gay marriage should be allowed if there’s a ceremony kind of thing, if you wanna call it that … I don’t have any problem with that." He is also the co-sponsor of the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance reform law, which Dobson virulently opposes.

Dobson — the conservative 72-year-old Christian leader once considered a kingmaker for Republican presidential candidates — then dismissed a string of other hopefuls, calling Rudy Giuliani an "an unapologetic supporter of abortion on demand" and suggesting Fred Thompson isn’t Christian enough to be president.

Finally in February Dobson endorsed Mike Huckabee. Less than a month later, the former Arkansas governor withdrew from the race.
