Colorado Independent welcomes Kosena and Zeveloff to the team

We’re pleased as all get-out to announce two additions to our reporting team: senior political writer Jason Kosena and senior fellow Naomi Zeveloff.

A native of Denver, Kosena comes to the Colorado Independent from the Fort Collins Coloradoan, where until recently he was the daily newspaper’s political writer. In addition to being based part-time in the state Capitol during legislative sessions, Kosena also covered national politics with an emphasis on Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. An award-winning reporter both in print and online, Kosena also served as a multimedia reporter and blogger while at the Coloradoan. Previously he covered government and education policy for MetroNorth Newspapers in Thornton.

Zeveloff is a Utah native and her work has appeared in various alternative newsweeklies, including the Dallas Observer, Westword, the Colorado Springs Independent and the Salt Lake City Weekly. A 2006 graduate of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Zeveloff is the recipient of several Colorado journalism awards and has won national praise from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies for her reporting on immigration in Colorado Springs.

Kosena and Zeveloff officially started last week and have already weighed in. Kosena reported on the action in the 4th Congressional District race heating up between incumbent Republican Marilyn Musgrave and her Democratic challenger Betsy Markey. Zeveloff’s story on Colorado’s controversial new pilot program, the first of its kind in the nation to help bring farm workers from Mexico to the United States to harvest crops, will appear in today’s edition.

They join our talented and award-winning team of writers, including Dave O. Williams, Erin Rosa, J.C. O’Connell and Leslie Robinson. And, of course, our matchless managing editor Wendy Norris.

Upward, onward.
