The quiet meeting was first reported by The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel Tuesday and an article appeared today in The Fort Collins Coloradoan.

In the Coloradoan article, Colorado State University political science professor John Straayer said Cheney’s visit will most likely earn Musgrave some campaign cash which the three-term Republican is in need of. Her fundraising is down 20 percent this year when compared to 2006.

Straayer also said the joint appearance could be a negative for Musgrave, who has spent the better part of the last two years trying to reinvent her public image as being more in touch with voters and more in the mainstream.

Dick Cheney is the furthest thing from the mainstream and the visit with Musgrave could put her in the wrong company, he said. Musgrave’s campaign staff was understandably quiet on the issue when a Coloradoan reporter asked about the vice president’s visit.
