Progressive town hall on ‘change’ set to precede DNC
Change is in the air. And the water. And the land. And in that long forgotten take-out container way in the back of your refrigerator.
It’s also the subject of a free "Live From Main Street" community discussion Aug. 24 — The Challenges of Change: Exploring the Conflicts and Opportunities Ahead. It’s the third in a series of five town halls being held across the nation "dedicated to putting the voices of everyday Americans back into the national political dialogue."
If the recent Miami conversation is any indication, participants are in for a lively dialogue.
According to Denver town hall organizers:
Tens of thousands of volunteers, delegates from the Democratic Party and the presumptive presidential nominee will be hitting Denver for the DNC championing "change." But do they all agree on the best kind of changes for this country?
With the help of local and national leaders and activists, Live From Main Street Denver is taking a closer look at what this buzzword means and what real, sustainable change would look like. And what impact will this new era have on education, security, the environment, immigration reform and other issues critical to the day-to-day lives of everyday Americans?
Come hear what Van Jones – Founder and President of Green for All; Rep. Donna Edwards (D – MD); David Sirota – Nationally Syndicated Columnist and Bestselling Author of "The Uprising"; Polly Baca – former Colorado State Senator and President of the Latin American Research and Service Agency; and other community leaders have to say about what CHANGE really means. Then, make your voice heard in our Q and A discussion! This event will be live streamed on the web and will reach tens of thousands of people across the country.
Laura Flanders host of Free Speech TV’s GRITtv and The Nation’s RadioNation will moderate this televised discussion.
The discussion will take place at The Big Tent, a hub for media and bloggers covering the convention, which will be set up in the parking lot of The Alliance Center, 1536 Wynkoop St., Denver.
Seating is limited and participants are encouraged to arrive early for the 4 p.m. event. Visit the Live From Main Street Web site to RSVP for preferred seating and get more information. Arrive early and receive a free copy of Laura Flanders’ book "Blue Grit" or David Sirota’s "The Uprising" courtesy of The Progressive Book Club.
The group is also recruiting 10-15 local volunteers to assist with event production.
