Hank Eng hangs tough in GOP stronghold

Hank Eng, the lone Democrat running for Colorado’s 6th Congressional District and widely regarded as a sacrificial lamb in the Republican-dominated district just south of Denver, has the support of fellow Democrats and Change Congress, a group working to change the way congressional campaigns are funded.

Paul Thompson, chair of the Douglas County Democrats, supports Eng and puts his chances of winning the congressional seat, which encompasses much of Douglas County, at about 50 percent.

“I think he’s a very moderate candidate. He brings a very commonsense approach to the issues Congress will be facing,” Thompson said.

Other Eng endorsers include former Denver Mayor Federico Pena, former Congressman Gary Hart, current Congressman Ed Perlmutter, state Rep. Joe Rice of Littleton and the Colorado AFL-CIO, according to a campaign spokeswoman.

Eng will face the winner of Tuesday’s four-way Republican primary in the fall.
