When 4th Congressional District Democratic candidate
Betsy Markey reported her second-quarter earnings earlier this month, her campaign was obviously excited with the momentum the Fort Collins small-business
owner and first-time candidate had garnered.
The Markey campaign’s excitement continued Thursday when both campaigns filed pre-primary campaign finance filings with the Federal Election Commission,
according an article in the
Fort Collins Coloradoan today.
Markey once again out-raised Musgrave during the first three weeks of July, bringing in $88,000, compared to Musgrave’s $58,000.
Not to overstate the importance of out-raising the three-term incumbent for the last four months, it should be noted that Musgrave’s $1.16 million cash on hand coming into August is nearly double that of Markey’s $613,000.
As The Colorado Independent reported earlier this week,
Musgrave has received the maximum donations from top congressional Republican leadership this year, an indication the Grand Old Party isn’t sitting quietly as Musgrave fights for a fourth
term.
