Move over, Bozo. The Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army (CIRCA), a group of activists, is coming to Denver to converge on the Democratic National Convention.
According to shot blurb on DNC Disruption 08, a blog created for those planning to protest the convention in August:
When King George was looking down the jester stole his thorny crown with PR magic it soon will pass a crown now sits upon an ass. Now is the time to laugh and poke at all of those bewitched by “hope”. Come one come all with juggling balls and stilts to rise above their walls. Their crooked joke will not besiege for the lords will soon be on their knees…laughing.
Send in the Clowns! CIRCA, the clandestine insurgent rebel clown army is gathering for the largest comedy act of the year– the DNC in Denver, Colorado, USA. Our first meet and greet will be held on August 19th, 5:30pm at the Mercury Cafe(2199 California, 22nd & California). CIRCA operatives have appeared at a number of large mobilizations, usually against corporate globalization. The group’s Web site also provides more information:
CIRCA is reclaiming the art of Rebel Clowning, it’s combatants don’t pretend to be clowns, they are clowns, real trained clowns. Clowns that have run away from the anaemic safety of the circus and escaped the banality of kids parties, Fools that have thrown away their sceptres and broken the chains that shackled them to the throne.
CIRCA aims to make clowning dangerous again, to bring it back to the street, restore its disobedience and give it back the social function it once had: its ability to disrupt, critique and heal society. Since the beginning of time tricksters (the mythological origin or all clowns) have embraced life’s paradoxes, creating coherence through confusion – adding disorder to the world in order to expose its lies and speak the truth.
