Veterans group to launch airwave battle against Schaffer

Coming soon in the latest in the war on TV — that is, the battle between U.S. Senate candidates Bob Schaffer and Mark Udall — is an ad sponsored by a group called VoteVets.org attacking the Republican Schaffer for his record on the war in Iraq.

VoteVets.org describes itself as “a pro-military organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, dedicated to the destruction of terror networks around the world, with force when necessary. It primarily focuses on education and advocacy on issues of importance to the troops and veterans, and holding politicians accountable for their actions on these issues.”

Tomorrow its members are unveiling a new TV ad during press conferences in Denver and Colorado Springs.

The spot is just the latest salvo in the Senate race, one of the most closely watched in the country. In recent weeks, anti-Udall ads have dominated the airwaves, accusing the congressman of everything from wasting money to being to blame for high gas prices.

And don’t expect the blitz to ease up anytime soon,

“I see nuclear winter coming in terms of the negativity of this campaign,” pollster Lori Weigel of Denver was quoted as saying in the Rocky Mountain News.
