Poll: Hickenlooper and McInnis neck and neck in governor’s race

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper (D) and former congressman Scott McInnis (R) are tied in the Colorado race for governor with 44 percent each, according to a Public Policy Polling survey (PDF) released Thursday.

Hickenlooper remains much more popular than his rival, with 47 percent of respondents holding a favorable opinion of him and 33 percent viewing him unfavorably. In contrast, McInnis has a 31/30 favorability spread, with 39 percent not sure.

In three previous polls conducted in March, April and May, McInnis lead Hickenlooper by six points.

Evergreen businessman Dan Maes is also running for governor on the Republican side, as is recent-entry business consultant Joe Gschwendtner, both of whom trail McInnis significantly.

National PPP has unleashed a series of polls on swing-state Colorado this week in advance of the Democratic and Republican state delegate assemblies.
