Hickenlooper doubles up rivals in June fund-raising race

In June, Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper raised more than twice as much as his two Republican rivals combined.

According to reports filed with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, Hickenlooper raised just under $505,000 in June. He spent just over $560,000 and ended the month with almost $67,000 in the bank.

Hickenlooper has spent $350,000 for future television time, and the campaign reports having reserved about $1.2 million in TV time for the fall.

Former Congressman Scott McInnis raised just over $166,000 in June, spent $226,320, and ended the month with almost $523,000 in the bank.

Dan Maes, who won top line billing for the primary with a strong showing at the Republican state convention, raised almost $32,000 in the month. He spent a little over $29,000, and ended the month with $23,339 in the bank. He agreed this week to pay more than $27,000 in fines and penalties related to his mishandling of campaign funds.

Hickenlooper, who entered the race in January after incumbent Democrat Bill Ritter dropped out of the race, has now caught up with McInnis in overall fundraising despite being in the race for less than half the time McInnis has been running.

McInnis has not reserved television time, opting instead to stockpile cash.
