Second-quarter fundraising totals for the U.S. Senate race in Colorado are now fully available for review. Totals for holdout Democrat Andrew Romanoff complete the set. Romanoff was alone among the four major party candidates in declining to release his totals to the public. Reports were due July 15 to the Federal Election Commission. Former Colorado Independent reporter Ernest Luning has provided a thorough review of the numbers at the Colorado Statesman.
Although Romanoff notched his best fundraising quarter yet, at $619,814, he raised merely half the money that his opponent Democratic Senator Michael Bennet raised. Bennet leads the pack by an overwhelming margin. He raised $1.24 million for the quarter. He has raised $7.44 million overall and reports $2.6 million cash on hand. Romanoff has by comparison a mere $464,340 to spend in the run up to the August 10 primary, for whcih ballots have already been distributed.
The biggest change this quarter comes in the Republican primary.
Former Lt Gov. Jane Norton has long enjoyed a vast money lead over Weld County DA Ken Buck. Now, however, even though she landed a personal best $900,000, she has fallen behind Buck in the all imporrtant cash on hand category. She is set to report roughly $600,000 cash on hand.
Buck also posted his best fundraising quarter with $417,000 but he has $664,000 cash on hand.
