Tancredo reiterates threat to run for guv in advance of high noon deadline

Speaking with Craig Silverman Sunday night on his KOA talk radio show, former Congressman Tom Tancredo restated his challenge to embattled Republican gubernatorial candidates Scott McInnis and Dan Maes. Tancredo said he was set to unleash a multi-state fundraising campaign as a rival candidate unless they agree to drop out of the race. Tancredo announced his intention to run for governor as a Constitutional Party candidate unless McInnis and Maes agree to drop out of the race if they trail Democrat John Hickenlooper in the polls after the August 10 GOP primary.

Although he has backed McInnis and worked on the McInnis campaign, he told listeners that McInnis and Maes were weak candidates now plagued by scandal.

McInnis plagiarized articles he was paid $300,000 dollars to write for the Hasan Family Foundation. Maes, a political novice, was recently found guilty and fined for campaign finance violations. Maes illegally paid himself $35,000 to $43,000 out of his campaign coffers.

The two GOP candidates have said they have no intention of dropping out of the race. Tancredo said a Hickenlooper win is unacceptable to him and to conservative voters in the state and that he fully intends to make good on his threat to run so that a “constitutional conservative” can win and lead Colorado.

The showy dramatic face off is scheduled for noon Monday. Tancredo said he would announce his candidacy by then if Maes and McInnis had not announced their intention to step down. Tancredo reminded listeners Sunday that his campaign will be fueled by a list of 20,000 ready Tancredo donors.
