Maes as UN bike-plot champion gains supporters as well as detractors

“This is all very well-disguised, but it will be exposed,” said GOP candidate for governor Dan Maes a couple of weeks ago, referring to the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), which he believes is advancing a United Nations environmentalist plot to restrict local freedoms and establish world domination. “These aren’t just warm, fuzzy ideas from the mayor,” Maes said about a Denver bike-sharing program. “These are very specific strategies that are dictated to us by [the] United Nations.”

As a news story, Maes’s UN bike plot is enjoying a sustained afterlife. The bike group Denver Cruisers dedicated its weekly Wednesday night ride to Maes yesterday, donning UN costumes touting the “bicycle world order” and so on. That was mockery but Maes has also gained support for voicing the theory. Some of these supporters have emailed the Colorado Independent and one sent links, including videos, elaborating on the theory and challenging the Independent and other publications to “follow up with this information” to demonstrate our lack of bias and seriousness as a journalism outlet. We are happy to comply.

The emailer, known only as K M, sent links to a blog called MORPHcity, which describes itself as

devoted to seeing throught [sic] the illusion and providing effective action plans to unravel the web of deceit that surrounds us. The advantage that the collectivists have is that they have been organized and constant in their pursuit of domination…. However, we have the numbers- this is vital. And the truth. The goal is to provide workable models that can be replicated for local action, expanding upward, in order to regain freedom.

MORPHcity author Cassandra Anderson explains why the mocked bike-takeover theory is a real threat.

ICLEI institutes the UN Convention on Biological Diversity treaty that was withdrawn from a vote on the Senate floor in 1994, so the treaty, designed for UN control, is being implemented in [600 U.S.] cities… ICLEI has many carbon reduction schemes that seem harmless, but ICLEI uses small steps to accomplish its goals.

One of those goals is population control or depopulation. Anderson posts a video of a 350.org Climate Change rally in Denver from last year, where she suggests the kind of depopulation the UN supporters are talking about could well be of the Hitler-Stalin variety.

“Watch… The [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] scientist advocate ‘doing whatever we can to reduce population.'” She adds, aghast, that the “crowd responded by cheering!”

MORPHcity also includes a video featuring someone named G. Edward Griffin, author of books on the Federal Reserve and curing cancer and one called ‘The Fearful Master, a Second Look at the United Nations,” which Anderson writes “exposes the true nature of the UN and the people behind its political policies.”

So there you have it. Denver bike-sharing: just a warm fuzzy ideas from the mayor or not at all. We report; you decide.
