Last day to register to vote in Colorado is Monday

Don’t delay you un-registered Coloradans. Monday, Oct. 4, is the deadline to register to vote in this year’s general election, which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2. The good news is that as long as you have a Colorado driver’s license or state ID card you can register at the Secretary of State’s website. Registering online takes about three minutes. If you don’t have a license or a state ID, you can still register to vote, you just have to print out the form, complete it and turn it in either personally to the Colorado Department of State in Denver or fax, email or mail it in postmarked no later than Monday. The form is available at the Secretary of State website or right here as a writable pdf, which means you can do it all by computer and email it straight off. Find the Colorado county you live in on this great map and send your pdf to your county clerk.

Registering to vote is a perfect Friday pre-cocktail hour activity. You’ll want to do this. If for no other reason than the fact that you can’t legitimately complain about politics or laws or lawmakers if you don’t vote, and complaining about politics and laws and lawmakers is a healthy activity that you can participate in for your entire adult life.

There’s a handy Secretary of State Elections Division Frequently Asked Questions section here. You can vote so long as you are a U.S. citizen and will be 18 years old by Election Day, have been living in your current Colorado precinct for at least 30 days before the election and are not serving a sentence or on parole for a felony conviction.
