Most polling shows Republican challenger Ken Buck leading in his bid to unseat Democrat incumbent Michael Bennet. Polls also show that Buck trails badly among female voters and moderates and independents, who are concerned about his position on abortion— essentially that abortion is always wrong, even in cases of incest and rape.
The New York Times today devotes more than a half page to how the abortion issue could play out in this race. Ads now running in Colorado attempt to paint Buck as out of step with Coloradans on this issue.
Buck spokesman Owen Loftus told The Times that the real issue in the campaign is jobs and termed the ads “a desperate effort by a desperate campaign.”
He confirmed Buck’s stance against abortion, but said as a senator, Buck would be primarily focused on the economy.
“People are growing more and more concerned about Ken Buck’s policies on the whole,” said Bennet spokesman Tervor Kincaid. Bennet is pro-choice.
