You can see how it might happen innocently enough. Republican challenger Cory Gardner tells his ad agency or his opposition research team, “Find something on that Markey, find some vote she cast that will show what a Pelosi-loving liberal she is.”
“Yes, boss,” comes the quick response. Too bad nobody noticed until a little too late that there are two Markeys in Congress.
By now, most people know the story of the ad that launched earlier this week targeting 4th District incumbent Betsy Markey, saying she voted for President Obama’s 2010 budget even though she voted against it.
Yesterday Gardner announced that he had fixed the ad, but The New York Times was all over it this morning anyway, quoting the Markey campaign: “Colorado deserves better than Gardner’s half-baked hit jobs.”
