Pastor Ted Sez Bush is Not the Devil

The National Association of Evangelicals today jumped into the Hugo Chavez/George-Bush-is-the-Prince-of-Darkness fray, providing the following statement after what sounds like exhaustive research into the matter:

“NAE theologians and scholars have conducted a thorough exegetical study of the biblical texts concerning the person, disposition, and earthy manifestations of Satan (Beelzebub, Lucifer, Prince of Darkness),” according to Ted Haggard, President of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE). “They have incontrovertible concluded that, contrary to the assertion of Hugo Chavez, President Bush is not the Devil.”

Haggard, the pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, has not been as tongue-in-cheek over the documentary “Jesus Camp,” which features him in a less-than-flattering light.
“Jesus Camp” is scheduled to open Oct. 6 in Denver, and Haggard has dissed the documentary in Salon and other publications.

MovieGuide.org, an online Christian ministry and film review clearinghouse that is “dedicated to redeeming the values of the mass media according to biblical principles,” has also panned Jesus Camp. From its website:

JESUS CAMP is a sarcastic documentary that paints evangelical, fundamentalist, charismatic, and politically concerned Christians as very shrill, warlike, and dangerous. The all-woman production team opens the documentary with a view of the highways of America while friends of MOVIEGUIDE
