Bennet spokesman predicts victory over Buck

At about 1:45 this morning, Bennet campaign spokesman Trevor Kincaid stepped up on the stage in a large, nearly empty room in the basement of the downtown Denver Marriott and told a dozen or so weary reporters that by the time all the ballots are counted later today, he expects Sen. Michael Bennet to have won re-election.

At the time that Kincaid spoke, Buck had a slim lead among all ballots counted to that point. But, Kincaid said most of the ballots still to be counted are from areas Bennet had done well in through the night.

He said there were still 15,000 ballots to be counted in Denver, 32,000 ballots to be counted in Boulder and 5,000 to be counted in El Paso County. He acknowledged that there were other small pockets of uncounted ballots in the state, but not in enough numbers to change the outcome.

With 87 percent of the precincts reporting just before 7 a.m., 9News and the Denver Post had Bennet ahead by 6,940 votes, 774,410 to 767,470.
