In a race perhaps going into automatic recount territory, incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet took a narrow lead over Republican Ken Buck heading into the dawn hours.
At 6:45 this morning 9News political reporter Adam Schrager tweeted this result, with thousands of votes still to be counted: Bennet: 774,410; Republican Ken Buck: 767,470.
In Colorado, any race decided by less than one half of one percent is automatically recounted. Given the current totals, one candidate would have to win by about 3900 votes to avoid a recount. Bennet, according to 9News, now leads by 6,940 votes.
If Bennet’s camp is right that most of the remaining votes to be counted are Bennet votes, a recount may be avoided.
