81611 = $

So what’s in a zip code for candidates and political groups? For Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the zip code 81611 should mean a lot. Aspen is 81611 and so far, Clinton has received close to $44,000 for her senate race from donors living in that zip code. In fact, she is on top of the list of a total of $378,928 that has been given to political entities in 2006 from Pitkin County residents.Aspenites were no slouches during the 2004 election either. Almost one million dollars in political donations were given to various candidates and political committees two years ago from the 81611 zip code.

The Clintons are no strangers to the Aspen area. They visit their supporters there at least once a year.

Other candidates enjoying 81611 support include Congressmen John Salazar at $14,300 and Mark Udall at $13,850. EMILY’s List, an organization that encourages women to run for office, received $29,000.

In comparison, political donors in neighboring Garfield County at 81601 which includes Glenwood Springs, have donated nearly $31,000 with the candidate 3rd CD challenger Scott Tipton, receiving the most at $10,000.
