VIDEO: Sen. Michael Bennet quizzes Ben Bernanke on fiscal policy

Sen. Michael Bennet today questioned Federal Reserve Chief Ben Bernanke on how to address U.S. debt and deficit. Bennet also asked Bernanke for his thoughts on the work of the deficit commission.

Bennet also asked Bernanke for his take on the deficit commission’s recommendations and asked him to discuss the potential effects a spike in interest rates on U.S. bonds could have on the nation’s economy.

The discussion took place during a meeting of the Senate Banking Committee.

At the hearing, Bennet said, “I just want to underscore and underline your observation that this is actually a near and present danger and that the sooner we get after it, the less painful this is actually going to be and the more likely we are to protect ourselves.”
