Democrats Excited, Republicans Not

Compared to previous elections, are you more enthusiastic about voting in the upcoming November election or less enthusiastic about voting?

According to a recent Circuli Associates poll:

By a 46-14 percent margin, Democrats were feeling more enthusiastic.  Unaffiliated voters were also feeling enthusiasm compared to prior elections by a margin of 36-29.  Meanwhile, optimists outnumbered pessimists among Republicans only 33-31.

Why care?  This enthusiasm could translate into high turnout, which could make the difference in close races for Democrats this year.  Democrats and unaffiliated voters tend to be less reliable voters than Republicans, for whom enthusiasm about a particular race is more likely to matter on election day.Ciruli Associates, a Denver area polling firm, polled 500 likely Colorado voters in a poll ending October 2, 2006.
