A group of gay conservatives have expressed concern over Michele Bachmann’s positions on gay rights. GOProud, a group of LGBT activists more conservative than the Log Cabin Republicans, hopes to defeat President Barack Obama in 2012 and is seeking audiences with all GOP candidates. But it’s Bachmann’s “big government” position on a federal constitutional amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples that has its members concerned.

“We have requested a meeting with Michele Bachmann,” the group’s executive director Jimmy LaSalvia told Yahoo News on Monday. “We’ve made this request, as with the other requests, in good faith.”

“We are committed to defeating Barrack [sic] Obama in 2012,” LaSalvia said. “And want to be helpful to whoever secures the GOP nomination.”

In an interview with CNN, he added, “I certainly agree with Michele Bachmann on a lot of stuff. We agree with her on a lot of the fiscal stuff. She’s absolutely dead right when it comes to the situation our country is in now and the need to put our fiscal house in order.”

But, the group disagrees with some of Bachmann’s positions and statements.

“We are certainly concerned about comments Bachmann has made about gay people, and we are even more troubled by her support for a federal marriage amendment that would be the largest power grab by the federal government from the states in the history of our country,” the group’s chair, Chris Barron, told Politico. “Given her stated support for ‘limited government’ we wish Congresswoman Bachmann would reconsider supporting such a massive federal power grab.”

Bachmann, according to media reports, hasn’t yet responded to the group’s request.
