Colorado’s next Secretary of State might not be named until Tuesday, according to a Denver Post report today. Enough absentee and provisional ballots were still uncounted Friday to statistically allow Democrat Ken Gordon to catch up with GOP candidate Mike Coffman, the Associated Press reported.
As of Thursday night, Gordon trailed by about 30,000 votes. About 46,000 absentee ballots remained uncounted, mostly in the Democratic strongholds of Denver, Boulder and Pueblo, where Gordon was getting 71% of the vote. By Saturday afternoon, though, Gordon was still behind by about 28,000 votes, with 18,000 absentee ballots still uncounted in Denver.
Yet, provisional ballots – an estimated 20,000 – won’t be counted until Monday, leaving the Secretary of State race results in limbo until Tuesday.
